Tianjin is fast becoming one of China's commercial hotspots – a city of 10.43 million; it is located east of Beijing, falling in a catchment area of two hours' drive away from five other major cities with an aggregate population of over 40 million. Tianjin is one of the four municipalities of the People's Republic of China (along with Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing), and is fundamental to the central government's plan for significant growth and development over the next five years.
People's incomes are rising rapidly, with Tianjin locals experiencing a real increase in disposable income of 13% in the last year alone. Tourism is increasing at an extensive rate, with more international travel than ever to and from Tianjin. Caught up in the hype of modernization and progression, the Chinese are fast becoming avid consumers of foreign retail brands and goods. |
